During the course you will:
- Gain understanding of the concepts of energy and power
- Gain understanding of units of measurements (Watts, Joules, etc ...)
- Learn to accurately read and understand electricity and gas meters and bills
- Learn to identify devices using energy in your home/business (including "phantom loads")
- Learn to measure energy consumption of your devices
- Experience using a digital power meter
- Identify areas where changes in patterns of consumption can save you real money
Note: "Phantom loads" refer to the power consumed by electronic appliances when they are switched off or in a standby mode. These often unrecognized power leaks can be suprisingly costly, often acounting for in excess of 10% of electricity bills. In our experience, students who identify and eliminate all phantom loads generally recoup the cost completing an audit course within a year!!!
Course Outcome:
Upon completion of the course you will have the knowledge and practical skills to conduct an energy audit on your home or business allowing you to quantify your energy requirements.
